The gel in the Opalescence Whitening Systems oxidizes stains and discolored molecules deep in the tooth.  The formula contains active ingredients, such as hydrogen peroxide, carbamide peroxide, potassium nitrate and Fluoride.

The make-up of the gel works to stick to the surface of your tooth without seeping outside of the tray, maximizing contact with your teeth and providing sustained peroxide release.

Does Opalescence Teeth Whitening work?

Office Teeth Whitening In Vista California

The process of teeth whitening works to remove stains from the outer layer of the tooth (enamel) and layer just beneath the enamel (dentin).

The enamel on your teeth is thin and lighter than dentin which is a darker color and forms the majority of the tooth.

Over time and due to age, teeth become stained by certain foods and beverages, such as coffee, tea, tobacco use, etc.  Additionally, our enamel thins as we age, allowing more dentin to show through, making teeth look darker and discolored.

Teeth whitening systems will remove the stains and discolorations, restoring a brighter, whiter smile.

Is It Safe To Whiten Teeth?

It is safe, easy, and comfortable to whiten your teeth from home.  Results vary upon the amount of staining and the preferred level of whiteness.  Keep in mind, crowns, fillings, bridges and veneers will not whiten.

The following factors should be considered prior to teeth whitening:

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have gum disease
  • Worn enamel
  • Cavities
  • Exposed roots

A visit to a dentist for a consultation may be the best option to help determine what option is best.

Will I Experience Tooth Sensitivity After Whitening?

Sensitivity is often a common side effect and is due to nerve irritation from the peroxide.  It’s important to note, sensitivity does not indicate tooth damage, and will most often be temporary.

Should you be experiencing sensitivity while using teeth whitening products, desensitizing gels and toothpastes are available.

How much does Opalescence cost?

What product you choose and where you purchase it will affect the cost of teeth whitening.  Over-the-counter whiteners are the least inexpensive but may not address your unique needs.

On the other end of the spectrum, in-office dentist-administered whitening treatments are more costly due to the use of lasers and lights that do not show improved results.

Opalescence whitening offer dentist prescribed strength without the costs associated with an in-office treatment, giving you the best overall value.

Speak with a dentist to discuss costs and what treatment option will best suit your needs.
